MLA Updates has wrapped up for 2024, sharing the latest research and updating stakeholders on how MLA is creating value across the supply chain.

On Thursday 10 October, approximately 350 attendees heard insights from speaker panels, presentations and demonstrations.

MLA Managing Director Michael Crowley said the day was an opportunity to explore the tools and technology that will get the industry where it needs to be in the next five years.

“I really enjoyed working with producers and getting feedback on how I think things are shaping up and how we can create and capture value for all participants in the supply chain,” Michael said.

The event saw experts from across Australia – including government and peak industry bodies – take to the stage to speak on a range of topics affecting the red meat industry.

Following the theme of ‘Creating value across the supply chain’, the keynote speaker for the morning session was Wayne Crofts, CEO of Craig Mostyn Group. In addition, five panel speakers joined Michael Crowley to discuss how the industry can create as much value as possible from the Australian paddock to the global plate.

Other presentations explored different pathways to maximise value, including digital agriculture, carcase feedback and various MLA programs.  

On the ground, MLA staff were present to discuss the latest research and development, adoption, and marketing activities, with sheep, cattle and carcases present for live demonstrations.

Attendees were able to learn more about MLA’s extensive activities and seek support to become involved.

As part of the showcase, the afternoon’s ‘Mini Carbon EDGE’ session was an opportunity for event attendees to get a taste of the usual two-day Carbon EDGE workshop, explaining the opportunity for emissions reduction and carbon storage activities in a grazing livestock business.

Insights from producers and stakeholders will help inform the year ahead before we reconvene at MLA Updates next year to see more progress from the red meat industry.
